Reds to host a ‘knockout’ afternoon of international boxing

Accrington Stanley will host a ‘knockout’ afternoon of international boxing with Clayton Amateur Boxing Club on Sunday 27th March 2022.

The event, one of the first to be hosted in the club’s brand new hospitality facility, will take place from 1pm-5pm, with doors opening at 12.30pm.

2019 National Youth Champion Kai Morley will be taking part, as well as boxers from Tipperary and Bantry in Ireland.

Tickets are priced at £12 for adults and £6 for children (under-15s), whilst food and drinks will be available in the 1968 Lounge throughout the afternoon.

Stanley’s Managing Director, David Burgess said: “We love giving back to and engaging with our local community and our brand new facility was built for everyone to use, including for amazing events just like this one.

“We can’t wait to see everyone down here enjoying themselves and cheering on some exceptionally talented young boxers.”

Head Coach and volunteer at Clayton Amateur Boxing Club, John Brindle added: “We have been overwhelmed by the support of this event from both the local community and we can’t thank Andy Holt and Accrington Stanley Football Club enough for their support.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our young boxers to perform in a fantastic world class venue here in Hyndburn and we are really looking forward to seeing our Irish friends against from Templemore Boxing Club and Bantry Boxing Club.”

Clayton Amateur Boxing Club, a non-for-profit organisation, recently moved into a new home at the Clayton Civic Hall after being awarded a Sport England, Community Asset Fund grant.

With a long history of serving the local community, providing a safe community for hundreds of children and young people, the £50,000 grant has allowed the club to transform Clayton Civic Hall into a boxing and fitness facility, encouraging more females to get involved with their programmes, as well as providing opportunities for young people and adults with disability or additional needs.
